The summer is often when Moroccan weddings happen. They are favorite events for everyone with family often traveling quite far in order to be part of the celebrations. Unlike American weddings Moroccan weddings have many parts and can last for multiple days.
We arrived back in Isgoufa in time for the last wedding of the summer. Typically we would be invited to one evening of the wedding festivities, but this was a two part wedding with both the bride and groom being from our same village.
Thursday night the girls and I went to the bride's house to be fed amazing food and watch her be celebrated and eventually given away to her groom. Part of the evening involves her changing her outfit up to 9 times! Between each outfit change the ladies enjoy the opportunity to dance and sing together.
Friday the whole family went to the grooms house and again were fed amazing food. We also watched traditional dancing and response/call singing done by local men. The traditions of this part of Morocco are a bit different than the north. This traditional dancing isn't something we have seen before and enjoy getting to see how its done. We are still learning about its significance, but its obviously a special part of the wedding.
It was a great time to be back together with our friends and both nights we managed to make it home by 2 am, which is early by Moroccan wedding standards.
